The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has once again launched one of the most important seasons in the academic calendar for Kenyan students. Before placement and admission, learners are encouraged to utilize career guidance materials now available on the portal.
Guide on KUCCPS admissions 2026
KUCCPS is a critical organ in coordinating the placement of government-sponsored students into universities, national polytechnics, technical training institutes, and other accredited higher learning institutions in Kenya.
It is indeed the gateway between your KCSE results and your future degree, diploma, certificate, or craft program.
Key dates for the 2026 placement cycle
Getting your dates right is helpful for timely planning to avoid portal congestion which often crash KUCCPS systems near deadlines.
| KUCCPS | Dates |
| Portal Opening | April 7, 2026 |
| Application Deadline | May 6, 2026 |
| Placement Results | July 2026 |

The 2026 cycle is open to a wide range of candidates expecting to join various levels of learning;
1. Degree programmes
- 2025 KCSE candidates who attained a mean grade of C+ or higher
- Form Four leavers from previous years (2000–2025) who scored C+ and above
- Candidates who scored C+ and above and wish to apply to the Open University of Kenya
2. TVET programmes
- Any KCSE candidate who sat exams between 2000 and 2025, regardless of grade
- This opens the door to over 711,744 students from the 2025 cohort alone who scored below C+
3. KMTC
- 2025 KCSE candidates get a separate window for the September 2026 intake
- Candidates who repeated subjects to meet KMTC-specific entry requirements are also eligible
The scale of the 2026 placement is massive with KUCCPS having received results for 980,444 eligible candidates from the 2025 KCSE cohort.
Of these, 268,700 attained a mean grade of C+ and above, making them eligible for degree placement across 43 public and 31 private universities.
The remaining 711,744 candidates who scored between C plain and E qualify for placement in public colleges and TVET institutions.
KUCCPS capacity and application process
On the institutional side, universities have been allocated 322,396-degree programme spaces approved by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Middle-level colleges offer a staggering 1,132,531 spaces for diploma, certificate, artisan, and other TVET levels.
Additionally, 251 public TVET colleges including 33 university-affiliated TVET institutes are available for placement this year, with Secondary Teacher Training Colleges accommodating up to 2,480 students.
KUCCPS portal application guide
Applying on the KUCCPS portal is straightforward if you follow these steps:
- Visit the Portal: Go to kuccps.net/login
- Log In: Enter your KCSE index number, your year of sitting KCSE, and your password
- Password: Use your KCPE index number or birth certificate number as your default password
- Select Programmes: Choose up to four course priorities. List your most preferred course first
- Review Cut-Off Points: KUCCPS has uploaded all degree programmes alongside the 2024 cut-off points to guide your choices. Courses are categorized into 20 distinct clusters
- Submit: Confirm your choices and submit before the deadline
If you need in-person help, KUCCPS has deployed officers across universities, colleges, and all Huduma Centers nationwide throughout the application period.
Tips for a successful KUCCPS application
- Check cut-off points before choosing courses. The 2024 cut-off points are publicly available on the portal. Applying for a course well above your grade wastes a priority slot.
- Diversify your choices. Use all four priority slots. Include highly competitive programmes you aspire to, but also include realistic alternatives.
- Confirm your institution’s funding status. Before falling in love with a programme at a private university, confirm whether it qualifies for government scholarships, HELB, or neither.
- Beware of fraudsters. No payment is required for admission-related services. Any person asking for money to secure a placement or hostel space is a fraudster.
- Apply early. The portal is busiest close to the deadline. Apply in the first two weeks to avoid stress.
In conclusion, KUCCPS processes placements based on merit as per your listed priorities, KCSE performance, and available institutional capacities. Upon completion, you will receive an SMS confirming you secured one of your choices, but the name of institution and course you have been placed in will come by July 2026, upon validation by the Ministry of Education.
