Its history
Egerton was established in 1939 by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, a British settler who donated over 400 hectares of land in Njoro, Nakuru County. Its aim was to train white settlers’ sons in agriculture and livestock management.
In 1950, the school was upgraded to an agricultural college, later opening doors to African students.
In 1979, it became a constituent college of the University of Nairobi, and in 1987, it was granted full university status through an Act of Parliament.
Since then, Egerton University has grown into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of programmes beyond agriculture, cementing its reputation as a center of academic excellence and research in East Africa.
